The famous author, Hilary Robinson, came to Carlton Primary School this week to share her brand new book.

Her inspiration for her new book, Where the Poppies Now Grow, was from her Great Uncle Norman and her Grandfather who fought in World War One.  Also the illustrator’s Great Uncle was in WW1.  She came to see us for the day and at lunchtime Rothwell Record came to get a picture of her with the school council.  In the afternoon she planted poppy seeds with us in our wildlife area.

Here are some of her books:

WW1 series, Mixed up fairy tales series, Extended fairy tales series, Halloween stories and of course the Sarah the Spider series.

Altogether she has written 40 Picture books, and she has written two of the best WW1 books there are for children.

 Quick facts:

  • She was 52 in January.
  • She also is a radio producer, feature and script writer.
  • She has been to a few festivals.
  • She did not know about Carlton even though she only lives 10 mins away.

As you can see Hilary is more than just a children’s author of many books. She doesn’t just write books that’s for certain. Don’t forget all the books can be bought from bookstores or online apart for Christmas Truce which will be available from next week (commencing 6/10/2014) and Flo of The Somme (or Flo the Mercy Dog could be the name) which will be out for the centenary of the Battle of the Somme.
