Learning and Development in Blue Bay

Blue Bay is our nursery classroom and the introduction into your child's school career at Carlton Primary School.

Our primary aims in Blue Bay are to build on the Prime Areas of learning to ensure children are settling into the Foundation Unit and high levels of wellbeing and involvement are developed and sustained. The Prime Areas include: Personal, Social and Emotional Development, Communication and Language, Physical Development.

We follow a 'Key Person' approach to support your child's transition period, learning and development throughout the year. Key people in Blue Bay are:

Miss Robinson - Teacher

Mrs Ayling - Nursery Nurse

Mrs Taylor - Nursery Nurse

Autumn Topics

In the Autumn term we are learning about Celebrations with a focus on Bonfire Night, Birthdays and Christmas. Children will also access Yellow and Red Bay ( Reception Classrooms) freely throughout their time in Blue Bay and will have opportunities to build on their understanding of celeberations as they learn about the Hindu festival of Diwali.

Spring Topics

In the Spring term our learning will be based on 2 topics. In Spring 1 this will be 'Freeze'. We will be carrying out lots of science based investigations around freezing and melting as well as exploring fiction and non-fiction texts in order to build our knowledge about frozen parts of the world. In Spring 2 our topic will be 'Magic!'. We will base this topic around traditional fairy tales such as the Elves and the Shoemaker, Jack and the Beanstalk and Hansel and Gretel.
