At Carlton Primary School we believe that science inspires children, encouraging them to be inquisitive about the world and enables them to develop a range of skills that are useful across their learning. Our aim is that these experiences will help secure and extend their scientific knowledge and vocabulary.
Young children are naturally curious and passionate about learning. At Carlton, we provide a stimulating EYFS curriculum that nurtures children’s natural curiosity and their on-going knowledge and understanding of the world around them. Through hands-on, enquiry-based activities, children will experience the joy of learning ‘how’ and ‘why’.
As we move through school the science curriculum offers a broad range of experiences designed to provide pupils with a progression of scientific understanding, skills and knowledge. Importance is placed on first hand experiences with an expectation that teachers will access the wide range of resources available as well as regular use of habitats across the school grounds and local areas. The children have a secure understanding of scientific enquiry skills and the reasons for what they are doing and why. The strategies to allow pupils to show their deeper understanding of learning.
We use Snap Science to inform our planning and this links to the National curriculum covering all the objectives the children need to know by the time they leave KS2.
