Royal Class - Reception

Royal Class is a Reception Class taught by Miss Radley.

Welcome to Royal Class!

18.01.24 - The children have had a great start to the new topic.  'I wonder what goes stomp...' They have been enjoying reading lots of new books linked to our topic and taking part in drawing club using their imagination to think of new ideas linked to our class story books. This week the children have made their own fossils for our new role play, using lots of great teamwork!

18.01.24 - The children are loving this little Read Write Inc area in the classroom this week! Lots of little Phonics teachers in the making! They've been practising the sounds they've learnt in Phonics lessons, practised building and reading words with the sounds in and writing words using their Phonics!

13.12.23 - What an amazing day we have had! All of the elves have been working very hard, making gifts, making reindeer food, baking gingerbread men, singing, dancing. doing a Christmas quiz and much more! We have been following our elf rules and have been fuelled by elf treats! We finished the day by having yummy hot chocolates, eating our gingerbread men we had made and having an Elf school graduation ceremony 😊. We think the elves will all be tired tonight from their busy day! 🎅🏼 🎄

13.11.23 We have had such a fun time celebrating Diwali today! We created various different Diwali themed crafts, listened to a Diwali story, took part in Bollywood dancing with a special visitor and tasted some Indian food for lunch! All the children looked fabulous thank you!

6.11.23 In Reception we celebrated bonfire night by cosying up by the bonfire, watching the fireworks and enjoying a tasty treat! We learnt about Guy Fawkes and why bonfire night is celebrated. We finished our morning by singing 10 big fireworks!

26.10.23 We had the most amazing Halloween party in Reception! We did lots of singing, dancing, games, cooking and much more! The pumpkins brought in for the pumpkin competition were all AMAZING and the children all looked fabulous in their costumes!

19.10.23 Today we enjoyed a visit from our Lollipop Lady or ‘Lady pop’ as she likes to be called! She told us all about her job role and how she keeps pedestrians safe. We spoke about her bright clothing, we looked at her stop sign and discussed where the children need to walk and look when crossing a road.

18.10.23 Wow! What an amazing day we have had in Royal class! We enjoyed an Inspiration day, the children dressed up as what they want to be when they grow up. We were overwhelmed with the amount of effort everyone had put into their costumes, we had every occupation that you could think of! In the morning we had a surprise visit from a doctor who told us how he helps people when they’re poorly. We thought about different ways we can get better and we enjoyed exploring different resources such as torches, stethoscopes, bandages and crutches. We also looked at some X-rays… some children were then very inspired we went on and made our own X-rays! Thank you to Mr Gorman for visiting us. We then enjoyed showing off our outfits and discussing what we wanted to be. We had lots of brilliant role play happening throughout the day, it was so lovely to see the children so inspired and enthusiastic. The children enjoyed visiting our vets, hairdressers, shop and doctors within the classrooms.

17.10.23 Today we went on our very own bear hunt trailing through long wavy grass, a deep cold river, thick oozy mud and a swirling whirling snow storm! The children used talk for writing to retell the story using actions. The children were amazing with their retelling!

12.10.23 - After our dentist visit yesterday we completed our own science experiment. Yesterday we learnt how different foods and drinks are not very good for our teeth. We decided to put our learning into an experiment and see which liquids might effect our teeth. We put four eggs into clear containers and added Coca Cola, coffee, vinegar and water separately. The children all made predictions about what they thought would happen to the eggs with the different liquids. They spoke about sugar contents and the colour of the liquids. We definitely have some future scientists within Reception! We need to leave them until after the weekend to check the results, the children are very excited to see the results on Monday!

11.10.23 Another super visitor today, a dentist! She told us lots of good facts including how many times to brush our teeth, how to brush our teeth (to always let our grown ups help) and about food that’s good for our teeth. The dentist did remind us that water is best for our teeth and that we have this in our water bottles at school. The children did fabulous listening and loved using the resources!

10.10.23 - The children have had another special visit today! We have had a visit from the fire service, who brought the fire engine into school for us. Some of the firefighters came into the classroom and spoke to us about fire safety. We listened to a smoke alarm so that we were all aware of the noise to keep a good listen out for at home and school. They learnt what to do in case of an emergency and the very important number of ringing 999! The firefighters told us all about the uniform they wear and why they need to wear it and they told us all about the different emergencies that they go to.

We then got to go outside and have a look around the fire engine. We got to have a sit in the fire engine where the fire fighters sit and have a go at squirting the hose pipe to pretend to put out a fire! This was certainly a favourite thing for a lot of them to do!

05.10.23 This week in Royal Class we have had a very exciting week! We have been learning about lots of different people who help us, both in our school and in our community. Today we have had a very exciting visit from two police officers who brought their police van and equipment in for us to have a look at. The children loved having a sit in the van, trying on uniform, listening and looking at the sirens and asking lots of questions! Lots of fun had by all!

Royal Class Police Visit

13.9.23 We have had an amazing day celebrating Roald Dahl day! The story we focused on in our class was 'The Enormous Crocodile'. We enjoyed reading the story, drawing, painting and making our own crocodiles. We then had a very exciting trip up to our wildlife area for the first time this year. We collected sticks and pretended to be coconut trees, just like the crocodile in the story. Once all the children had reenacted this part of the story and we had lots of coconut trees around; myself, Miss Fletcher and Mrs Howard pretended to be the children from the story picking the coconuts. We had a big surprise when the trees went SNAP! The children absolutely loved it!

12.9.23 We have started learning our Phonics sounds this week through Read Write Inc Phonics. The children have been doing some super handwriting practise of the sounds so far! We have met our new friend in Phonics 'Fred' the frog. Keep a look out on Tapestry for the parent links from the Read Write Inc Portal for you to help support your children with their Phonics at home.

7.9.23 It has been lovely welcoming back the children this week. We have had an amazing first week back! I have been so impressed with all of the children. They have shown maturity, independence and resilience with settling into Reception. The children have loved sharing their 'special boxes' and it has been really nice to get to know everybody that little bit better. The children have all had lots of fun exploring both our indoor and outdoor environments and we have been extra lucky with the amazing weather we have had this week too! We are so excited to start this learning journey together. Take a look at some pictures from our first week back.
