Supreme Class - Reception

Supreme Class is a Reception class and the teachers are Miss Fletcher and Mrs Weaver.

Welcome to Supreme Class!

This half term our topic is 'I wonder what is in the mud...' The children will be learning all about animals on the farm and what they produce. We will be learning how food and plants grow in the mud and what they need to survive, we will also be learning about the parts of a plant. Our learning will take place through stories and animations. Our Story/ Animations are The Little Red Hen, Poddington Peas, What the Ladybird heard, Farmer Duck, Popeye and the country fair and A Squash and a squeeze.

The children will be exploring nature and spotting changes through the seasons. We are already getting stuck into our learning exploring plants and looking at growth, this week we will be starting to grow our own plants and vegetables.

What an amazing day we have had! All of the elves have been working very hard, making gifts, making reindeer food, baking gingerbread men, singing, dancing. doing a Christmas quiz and much more! We have been following our elf rules and have been fuelled by elf treats! We finished the day by having yummy hot chocolates, eating our gingerbread men we had made and having an Elf school graduation ceremony 😊. We think the elves will all be tired tonight from their busy day! 🎅🏼 🎄

Take care,

Today we had a wonderful day celebrating Diwali! In the morning we looked at how Diwali is celebrated and enjoyed a range of activities including making Diva lamps, rangowli patterns and designing henna. At lunchtime we enjoyed a delicious Diwali themed dinner with our teachers; trying lots of new foods! In the afternoon we had a surprise visit from a professional Bollywood dancer who taught us a simple routine and gave us bindi's to wear. Happy Diwali! 13.11.23 Miss Fletcher

In Reception we celebrated bonfire night by cosying up by the bonfire, watching the fireworks and enjoying a tasty treat! We learnt about Guy Fawkes and why bonfire night is celebrated. We finished our morning by singing 10 big fireworks!

Today we enjoyed a visit from our Lollipop Lady or ‘Lady pop’ as she likes to be called! She told us all about her job role and how she keeps pedestrians safe. We spoke about her bright clothing, we looked at her stop sign and discussed where the children need to walk and look when crossing a road.

Wow! What an amazing day we have had in Supreme class, today we enjoyed an Inspiration day, the children dressed up as what they want to be when they grow up. We were overwhelmed with the amount of effort everyone had put into their costumes, we had every occupation that you could think of! In the morning we had a surprise visit from a doctor who told us how he helps people when they’re poorly. We thought about different ways we can get better and we enjoyed exploring different resources such as torches, stethoscopes, bandages and crutches. We also looked X-rays… some children were then so inspired we went on and made our own X-rays! Thank you to Mr Gorman for visiting us. We then enjoyed showing off our outfits and discussing what we wanted to be. We had lots of brilliant role play happening throughout the day, it was so lovely to see the children so inspired. The children enjoyed visiting our vets, hairdressers, shop and doctors within the classrooms.

Today we went on our very own bear hunt trailing through long wavy grass, a deep cold river, thick oozy mud and a swirling whirling snow storm! The children used talk for writing to retell the story using actions, great story telling Supreme class!

Following on from our dentist visit yesterday we have done our own science experiment. Yesterday we learnt how different foods and drinks are not very good for our teeth. We decided to put our learning into an experiment and see which drinks might effect our teeth. We put four eggs into clear containers and added Coca Cola, coffee, vinegar and water separately. The children all made predictions about what they thought would happen to the eggs with the different drinks, they spoke about sugar contents and the colour of the liquids. We definitely have some future scientists within Reception! We need to leave them until after the weekend to check the results, the children are very excited to see the results on Monday!

Another fabulous visitor today in Early years, a dentist. She told us lots of facts including how many teeth we should have, how many times we should brush our teeth and she even showed us how to brush them properly and reminding us we should always let our grown ups help whilst we are still learning. We learnt which foods are good for our teeth and which aren't so good and we spoke about having water in our water bottles because water is the best thing for healthy teeth! We enjoyed exploring the resources, dressing up and having a go at brushing the puppets teeth with a giant tooth brush! The children listened well and enjoyed learning about their oral health.

We have had the best morning ever! We were lucky enough to have a visit from Rothwell fire service team who brought in their fire truck. First some of the fire fighters came into our classroom and spoke to us about fire safety, in their special uniforms. We listened to a smoke alarm so that we were all aware of the noise if we ever hear one. The children were all asked to come home and see if they can find their smoke alarm and to check if it works. They learnt what to do incase of an emergency and learnt the very important number to call. 999! We then went outside and explored the fire truck, we climbed inside and sat in the back it was so exciting! We then looked at the special equipment they used to help cars and water emergencies. Our favourite part of the morning was using the large hose to squirt water and pretend we were putting out a fire. Reception did us proud and set a great example of the school to the fire service; listening well, using manners and coming up with some great questions. Superstars!

We have had a very exciting week in Supreme Class! We have been exploring those that help us in our community and looking at different jobs. We had an exciting visit from some police officers who brought in their police van and real equipment! We had so much fun trying things on, exploring the van and asking questions.

Reception Roald Dahl Day

13.09.23 Hello, what a wonderful week we have had in school so far. We have enjoyed our first phonics lessons learning new sounds and meeting our new friend 'Fred' the frog. We have had an amazing day celebrating Roald Dahl, our story focus was 'The Enormous Crocodile'. We enjoyed reading the story, drawing, painting and making our own crocodiles. Our favourite part of the day was visiting our wildlife area, where we collected sticks and pretended to be coconut trees; just like the crocodile does in the story. Once all the children were hidden behind their sticks myself, Miss Radley and Mrs Howard pretended to be the children from the story picking coconuts from the trees, we had a big suprise when the trees went SNAPP!

Welcome back!

What an amazing first week back we have had, I have been so impressed with all of the children. They have shown maturity, independence and resilience. We have seen some amazing manners, many positive attitudes and great kindness. The children have loved sharing their 'special boxes' and it has been really nice to get to know everybody that little bit better. We are so excited to start this learning journey together...

Hello Supreme Class!
I am so excited for the year ahead; I’m looking forward to continuing the journey with many of the children I taught last year and welcoming lots of new… I cannot wait for our adventures! We have so many exciting things planned for the year already! Be prepared for lots of fun, creativity, learning, laughter, hard work, and friendships to be made. In my class we are always singing and dancing- perfect for early years but my favourite thing is to share stories together, reading stories, re-telling stories, and making up our own stories! What stories can you share with your family over the holidays? Have a lovely time making precious memories with your families.

See you very soon,
Miss Fletcher
